Zagreb - Plitvice - Split

It is time to part with Zagreb and head towards Croatian coastline. However, not before we explore places on our way. Two hours later, we will reach Plitvice Lakes entrance and commence our tour along the panoramic pathways around the lakes. According to our experience, we choose one of the best ways to experience the lakes, in order to avoid large groups of tourists that overcrowd the place, disrupting your concetration and enjoyment in whole experience. Moreover, we will avoid hard and steep climb back to the exit, thus saving huge amounts of energy. National Park Plitvice Lakes is one of the oldest national parks in Southeastern Europe and the largest national park in Croatia. It was founded in 1949, and in 1979 was added to the UNESCO World Heritage register among the first natural sites worldwide. This wonder of nature consists of 16 lakes and makes a unique natural phenomenon, both for its geomorphological composition and for a large number of endemic species. Upon finish of Plitvice tour, follows a 5-minute drive to the place where you will take a rest and have a lunch. This is a noted restaurant that offers an excellent choice of specialties to choose from, whether you like European or more local dishes such as lamb on a spit and trout. Afterwards we will leave Lika region and, climbing the mighty Velebit Mountain, a barrier between the inland and sea, reach miraculous Dalmatia region, where you will be staying for the rest of your holidays. Your hotel in Split is situated at city centre. Once arrived and checked in, you will be able to refresh yourselves and spend your time at leisure. Our guide will make sure you are well informed on how to eventually spend your evening if you feel like going out. Read more

Split

Split is not only the city, it is a living monument of the ancient architecture intertwined with the early Christian, Byzantine and Medieval art. It is under the UNESCO protection from 1979. The city was founded as a spacious Roman palace near metropolis Salona, and was built by a charismatic Roman Emperor Diocletian as his retirement residence. In late morning hours you will start a walking tour of the Diocletian`s Palace and historical core of Split. The Imperial cellars, Peristyle, picturesque streets and squares, temples, sphinxes, fruit market, medieval palaces and the fish market; vivid pulse of the city will embrace your perception. It is a beautiful picture and pleasant melody, engraved into the hearts of its citizens. The people of Split refer the city as the most beautiful town in the world, so our goal is to show it to you in its entirety, so you could be the judge of that. Read more

Split

This day is completely yours to decide on what to do. Whether you like exploring the scenic streets of Split, or maybe exploring its rich surroundings, we decided to leave you enough time for relaxation and independence. If you feel like ready to escape the hustle and bustle of Croatia's second largest city, it might be nice to spend time in nature and enjoy some picturesque scenery. In that sense, a good idea would be visiting Marjan peninsula, which is favourite resting, and family bonding place for most citizens. The peninsula is home to several points of interest, including the remains of a 16th-century Jewish cemetery, hermitages and chapels from the 13th and 14th centuries. Eventually, a set of steps leads up to Telegrin, which at 178m, is the highest point on the peninsula. The islands of Brač, Hvar and Šolta can be seen and, on particularly clear days, you can see as far as the island of Vis. An afternoon of sightseeing should be finished just as the locals would do it, with a drink at coffee bar which overlooks the city. Read more

Split-Mostar-Ston-Dubrovnik

Today, parting from Split, we set of towards Dubrovnik stopping along our way in Mostar and Ston. Two hours later and across the border, we will explore charming and sad town Mostar. Settled on Neretva River, today is formerly one of the most ethnically diverse cities in Bosnia. It belongs to one of the world`s divided cities, with Neretva river drawing the line between two cultures, eastern oriental and the western culture. The most attractive part of Mostar is around the old bridge and its eastern part. This tour offers you to learn how much diverse and beautiful can life be in this part of Europe. Experience the bigger picture and immerse deeper into the local secrets. Once arrived, accompanied with expert local guide, you will explore and admire Kujundžiluk – the old bazaar, the oldest part of the city where one can still witness old crafts of hand copper working and carpet weaving. In the middle, the spiritual icon of the town – The Old Bridge, built between 1557 and 1566 by a student and apprentice of the Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan. Even though destroyed by Croat forces in bombardment during the recent civil war, its structure was laboriously reconstructed using some of its original pieces recovered from the Neretva River. It is now enlisted as UNESCO World Heritage Site, as an exceptional symbol of coexistence of communities from diverse cultural ethnic and religious backgrounds. Afterwards, you will have some free time to seek and pursue exquisite smells of traditional Bosnian cuisine along the Avlije – alleys. Common culinary delights of Mostar are ćevapčići – (typical meal of grilled veal/lamb meat dumplings with spices) and burek (veal/lamb meat-filled pastry) or sirnica and zeljanica - (cheese/chard filled pastry). Your lunch in a Bosnian jewel will be served in a place that truly projects local traditions and enjoys excellent reputation when it comes to originality of Bosnian food. After some leisure time and traditional Bosnian coffee, you will continue your way to Dubrovnik, making a short stop in a small town Ston. Ston is mostly known for three landmarks; one of the oldest salts works in Europe, famous Ston Wall and many oyster farms stretching along Bay of Ston. Once arrived and checked in to your hotel, you will be able to refresh yourselves and spend your first night in Dubrovnik at leisure. Read more

Dubrovnik

Good morning! Today, we left almost the entire day at your leisure, so you could rest from yesterday’s adventure and prepare yourselves for experiences that lie ahead. In the afternoon, when the crowds from cruise ships subside, a driver will come to pick you up and drive you to the western gate of Dubrovnik Old Town where you will meet your guide. During your walking tour of Dubrovnik, accompanied with one of the best guides in Dubrovnik, learn about the exiting heritage of this miraculous place. This unique city tour will give you the opportunity to explore the stunning architecture and history of this world famous city, also enlisted as UNESCO World Heritage Site. Witness Dubrovnik's rich history and discover its magnificent buildings, palaces and treasures. In the old town centre you will find all the major sights of Dubrovnik - Rector’s Palace, Sponza Palace, Pile gate, Orlando Column and a Cathedral of the Assumption that was built on the site of a 7th-century basilica. Dubrovnik's original cathedral was enlarged in the 12th century, supposedly funded by a gift from England’s King Richard I, the Lionheart, who was saved from a shipwreck on the nearby island of Lokrum. In Franciscan Monastery is settled the third-oldest functioning pharmacy in Europe, which has been in business since 1391. It may have been the first pharmacy in Europe open to the public. In addition, there is a small museum with a collection of relics and liturgical objects, including chalices, paintings, gold jewellery and pharmacy items such as laboratory gear and medical books. Afterwards, allow us to offer you a nice farewell dinner and enjoy the atmosphere that this carefully selected restaurant provides. Your driver will come to pick you up at agreed time and drive you back to your hotel. Read more

Rob at Ventula Travel is incredible - he is detail oriented, organized, and went above and beyond to ensure we had a terrific vacation when my husband and I visited Croatia! He even noticed and remembered that my husband had a birthday while we were visiting and made sure to drop off some wine and dessert for us to celebrate! All the travel arrangements were seamless, punctual and very thought out/considerate. Our off the beaten track tours to an ancient water mill, an olive oil tasting and sea kayak tours were perfect! Just what we had asked for. We will definitely recommend any one to make use of this hidden gem of a travel agency for the best travel experience in Croatia! Read more

My experience with Ventula Travel was easily one of the best I have had whilst travelling. As a student of archaeology, the excavations at ancient Siculi gave me practical experience in the field with a team of friendly people, and the added bonus of being right next to the beach! The days at the site were physically demanding, but also incredibly rewarding; there is truly nothing like watching a 2000 year old amphora emerge from the earth! As it was my first time at a dig, the local archaeologists running the site, Dijana and Ivan, were very helpful and patient in answering all my questions, making the experience that much more educational. The excursions in the afternoons and on the weekends really allowed us to experience what the region has to offer. Croatia is so much more complex and diverse than I had every imagined in terms of culture, history and food. The excursions allowed us to experience all sorts of aspects of this heritage, from prehistoric sites and Roman Salona and Split, to stunning medieval Trogir, regions of the hinterland and the Alka Museum at Sinj, to name just a few. The personal service and guiding on this tour was also exceptional; after being delayed for 5 hours on arrival, I was still met by Robbie with a friendly face and an enthusiastic welcome (despite it being 1am!). The quality of the guiding was also excellent; Robbie has a superb knowledge of the region and its history, and was always thinking of ways to make our time in Croatia more enjoyable. He even managed to organise a last minute trip to the Augusteum at Narona, which for me was a dream come true. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone with an interest in archaeology or history in general. Croatia's Roman past is fascinating, and the opportunity to dig incredible, but this is only the tip of the iceberg. Great coffee, pizza and prosciutto await you, as do historic sites from the prehistoric to the modern, and all with some of the most friendly people in the world to guide you through it. Read more

Croatia should be in the list of every avid traveller. It has a rich history, art heritage, diverse culture and has varied gastronomical delights. Our group was lucky to have found Ventula Travel to create this tour for us. From the moment Robert Bralić submitted his initial proposal for a customized tour of Croatia for 11 days for a group of 6, we knew that his version stood out from the other 3 companies we asked to submit proposals. Apart from the usual tourist destinations, Robert incorporated unique experiences that only a learned and passionate local guide would know about. It was actually a risk on his part to depart from the usual tour packages. offered a package to a group he hardly knows would welcome such off the beaten tracks. And as such, while the likes of Dubrovnik, Diocletian Palace, Dalmatian Islands tour, Plitviče Lakes would top the list of a regular tourist's experience in Croatia, our group would forever remember the moments we had cruising the Nretva river in a traditional boat, getting to know the family that owns a Medieval watermill (that still operates) and being served local cuisine; being served ancient cuisine while getting educated on olive oil in a historic site, having fun following a dog hunting for truffles, listening to an energetic local entrepreneur in his quest to get a trade patent to protect his strudel recipes, and many more unique encounters with locals that made our holiday truly enriching. The tour guides assigned to us were all excellent. As tour guides, being educated is our minimum expectation. We were assigned Archaeologists, art historians, educators who passionately shared with us not only what they know and learned from books but also stories from their own family experiences which makes the exchange even more meaningful. No moment was wasted with any of them as we devoured every information they were sharing with us. We got very good tips on where to eat or where to spend our free time or what to watch out for when we are walking around. While we will not retain everything that we learned about Croatia, the moments we shared with a lot of the people we met in this trip would last a lifetime. Read more
