After an early morning pickup from your San Jose hotel, we will transport you in a private, comfortable bus to the Rios Tropicales Operations Center for a delicious, typical Costa Rican breakfast. After breakfast and changing into rafting gear, we will drive to our private rafting put-in on the banks of the Pacuare River. Here we review and adjust all necessary equipment for proper fit, give you a comprehensive rafting safety talk, and instruct you on paddling basics. From here, you and your group will launch your raft and begin to paddle 19 miles deep into the heart of one of Costa Rica’s most impressive primary rainforests. You’ll pass through densely vegetated rainforest gorges, view cascading waterfalls, relax in serene pools and experience pounding rapids. Halfway down the river, you will pass the Rios Tropicales Lodge, our unique ecolodge, where guests stay on our 2-, 3-, and 4-day multi-sport adventure trips. Hydro-powered and intimate, the lodge blends naturally into the rainforest on our 2,000-acre private reserve, complete with waterfalls, quiet pools, and miles of trails. You will enjoy an adrenaline-packed afternoon running the Pacuare’s biggest rapids: Upper and Lower Huacas, Cimarron, Dos Montañas and more. Firstly, you star with Sky Walk, guided tour, which combines trails and suspension bridges with lengths of even 984 feet and heights above the canopy of Monteverde cloud forest. The tour gives you the opportunity to enjoy the flora and fauna of the area, always joined by one of our specialized guides. The tour lasts between 2 and 2.5 hours. Its name means "The Old Woman's Corner", a reference to a local legend about a girl whose lover was thrown into the volcano crater by her father; she became a recluse living on the mountain, and was credited with powers of healing. Rincón de la Vieja National Park, which spans over 34,000 acres (12,759 ha), helps protect both montane forests and dwarf cloud forests. Trails extend from the Santa Maria ranger station and wind through the park, passing hot springs and waterfalls along the way. Today you’ll have the time of your life riding the watery rollercoaster of the Black River in individual inner tube rafts on our Rio Negro Tubing Adventure. Enjoy non-stop fun and excitement bouncing and splashing down 5 km (3 miles) of class 2 and 3 rapids in this narrow, rushing river of crystal clear water. There are plenty of quiet pools along the way to appreciate the beautiful tropical scenery. Our special river tube rafts are designed with handles and protective bottoms. Guides go with you and ensure your safety. Part of your river tubing adventure includes riding our trusty Costa Rican ranch horses (or you can go by vehicle transport) from Hacienda Guachipelin along scenic trails through the forest to get to the river. At the river, there are bathrooms and changing rooms. We recommend wearing a swimsuit, quick-dry shorts and shirt, and either river shoes, sneakers or strap-on sandals that are secure. Tamarindo is a long, rocky beach, with excellent waves near the mouth of the estuary. Tamarindo Beach is part of a bay formed by a cape, and Playa Grande lies to the north of Tamarindo inside the bay. The two beaches are separated by Central America’s largest mangrove estuary, Estero de Tamarindo. South of Tamarindo there is another beautiful estuary, Estero de San Francisco, and beautiful Playa Langosta. These beaches and estuaries are part of Las Baulas National Park. Breakfast included at the hotel. Today you’ll be picked up from your lodging and brought to the tour office of Pacific Trades to meet the staff for today’s adventure. You may even be picked up locally on an ATV! You can choose either a single or double seated quality sea kayak. Life vests and clean, well maintained snorkeling gear will be distributed. After safety instructions, you’ll hit the beach to put in your kayak as you head for an offshore tropical island paradise. You’ll reach your stride paddling through the gentle waves of the typically smooth bay as you head towards Capitan Island. Along the way you can capture stunning views of the beautiful shoreline with its magnificent mountainous backdrop. Be sure to bring a strap for your sunglasses as you gaze at the glittering water before you, sparkling like diamonds. Once you reach the island cove you’ll pull your kayak ashore and your knowledgeable guide will give you a short tour of the island. Next you’ll go on a guided snorkeling expedition in shallow water over rock formations, home to a variety of aquatic species including: colorful tropical fish, coral, eels, octopi, pufferfish and rays to name a few. Don’t worry if you have never snorkeled before as your friendly guide will help you learn the basic art of breathing through an air tube so you can swim freely, watching the magical underwater world below. Before heading back to the mainland, you’ll take a break in these beautiful surroundings to drink some water and rest on the white sandy beach. Sliding your kayak back into the water, you’ll once again paddle through the soft surf towards the shore. Along the way you might see a pod of playful dolphins or a swimming sea turtle or, if you are very lucky a breaching whale that comes to this area during mating season. The sky is limitless, yet there are no guarantees of what you’ll see as each day provides different gifts. Once back on land, you’ll return all the gear and if you want, you can change into dry clothes before being taken back to your lodging. Round trip transportation, bilingual guide, safety and snorkeling gear, as well as drinking water are all included in this fun half day outing, exploring the treasures of the sea.
