14 DAYS ADVENTURE IN MALAGASY SOUTH

One of the tourist attractions of the south western region of Madagascar is "the Tsingy of Bemaraha", the karstic massif (with the sharp peaks), declared world heritage by unesco in 1990. To get there, you have to run on a very bad track. Its discovery is often combined with the descent of the Tsiribihina River (traditional pirogue or motorboat), amazing landscape. The adventure does not end there, you will also climb the peak bobby, 2nd peak of the island. A trekk of 3 days.

DAY 1

Arrival in Antananarivo

Pick up from Antananarivo Airport to your hotel in town. After check-in, you will have a briefing on the progress of your trip with an agency representative.

DAY 2

Antananarivo - Miandrivazo

After breakfast, you will leave Antananarivo, Merina country to Antsirabe across the Ankaratra mountain range, whose highest peak rises to 2644m. On the hillsides, rice terraces disclaim their range of green. From Antsirabe, you will take a fork to the southwest towards Miandrivazo. The green landscape of rice terraces gave way to a hilly landscape and a landscape of breathtaking "lavaka". You will reach Miandrivazo late in the afternoon. DAY 3

Tsiribihina River Tour

In the morning, you will go to Masiakampy, the landing stage and begin your Tsiribihina River tour on 145 km. You can sit back, relax and enjoy a beautiful landscape and many kinds of wild animals like: herons, wild ducks, parrots, raptors, kingfishers, chameleons, insects and butterflies. In the late afternoon we will be setting camp on a sand bank, make a fire and cook your dinner. Enjoy your meal, listening to the sounds of the river and watch the sun go down. Out here where there are no streetlights or pollution the night sky is full of stars, beautiful and relaxing it will lead you to a sweet dream. Camping on full board basis Canoes: these are traditional dugout canoes, measuring 12 m in length on average and 60 cm in 1 m wide. The loading is 700 to 1200 Kg. A dugout can bring 1 to 3 people. Camping: 2 places tent igloo, mattresses, blankets, sheets and pillows are provided. For the personal comfort of everyone, it is better to bring a sleeping bag Sanitary: a shower cubicle is mounted on the beach. The toilets are made in the nature. Read more

DAY 4

Tsiribihina

After breakfast, you will continue the descent through the Massif of Bemaraha. It overflows with a fantastic landscape, deciduous forest with its lemurs and the marvelous sounds of birds. We will have a shower under the best waterfall of Madagascar: “Anosin’ Ampela” and its natural swimming-pool followed by a picnic. You will see towering cliffs, baobab forests and lush vegetation along the riverbanks. You will see aquatic birds, fruit bats and maybe even some crocodiles and snakes. You will stop at a village and set camp on a sand bank. Read more

DAY 5

Tsiribihina - Belo sur tsiri

This last part of the pirogue trip also leads you to beautiful landscapes with rice fields on banks. You arrive at Belo sur Tsiribihina village in the afternoon. Upon arrival you will check-in at Karibo Hotel. Karibo Hotel is a very basic hotel but you won’t find any better in this village which is in the bush. Read more

DAY 6

Belo sur tsiribihina - Bekop

After the breakfast, you will travel to Bekopaka village on a very bad track (5 hours for only 80Km) by 4WD car. You will pass through small villages with these savannah landscapes. You will arrive to Bekopaka in the afternoon. The rest of the day will be free.

DAY 7

Bekopaka: Big Tsingy

The region of Antsingy benefited from the status of strict nature reserve (access limited to researchers) until August 1997, when the Malagasy state created the National Park Tsingy of Bemaraha. This wonderful site has been ranked on the list of Unesco World Heritage in 1990. With an area of over 150,000 ha, it includes a strict nature reserve to the north and an area of 72 000 ha open to visitors, south. Two areas are open to the public; the small Tsingy sector extends a few hundred meters from the village of Bekopaka and big Tsingy highlight of the visit, located 17 km from the first track. Visits to the Tsingy of Bemaraha will be adapted to the physical conditions of each and require the assistance of a local guide and respect for "Fady" (taboo) premises. On this day, you will discover the “Big Tsingy” through Andamozavaky tour. In the morning you will join the Big Tsingy (1hour by 4WD). Andamozavaky is an athletic tour and requires a good physical condition. It takes between 4 to 5 hours walk and it is quite technical (pass at galleries and caves, ladder climbing and crossing suspension bridges). You will have a panoramic view of tsingy. We advise you to take a picnic lunch for day visits. After the visit, you will come back to your hotel. Read more

DAY 8

Bekopaka - Morondava

After breakfast, you will take the track to Belo Tsiribihina, and then you will continue to Morondava. On the way, you have to cross by ferry the Manambolo and Tsiribihina Rivers. A few kilometers before arriving at Morondava, you will stop at the famous Baobabs Alley to discover Baobabs and to attend the sunset. After the sunset, you will continue until your hotel. Read more

Morondava - Antsirabe

In the morning, you will leave Morondava to Antsirabe which you will reach in the end of the afternoon.

DAY 10

Antsirabe - Ambalavao

After the breakfast, you leave Antsirabe to Ambositra, located at 90 km on National Highway 7. This pleasant city is known as the Mecca of Malagasy crafts, it owes its fame to wood sculpture and marquetry. You will visit a workshop and the showroom. After the visits, you will continue to Ambalavao, "South Gate" small town populated by Betsileo. On place you will visit an Antemoro craft paper factory. Made from the bark of "avoho", it is decorated with fresh flowers. Overnight in a hotel. Read more

DAY 11

Hiking at Andrigitra NP

A 3 days / 2 nights hike in the Andringitra National Park will begin here. In the morning, you first leave Ambalavao to Andringitra by 4WD that will run through the beautiful scenery of the Malagasy highland (rice terraces, traditional villages, and tombs on the cliffs ....). After three hours, you will be in Namoly Valley. The 4WD will take you to the car park after check-in formality (ticket, guide, porter…). Before continuing, you will have lunch. You will be at 1650 m and will climb to 2100m, passing in secondary forest, overlooking the two sacred waterfalls, panoramic view, before to be at the third camp Andreampotsy (base camp). Picnic lunch included Dinner and overnight camping at Andreampotsy camp. For the day, you will walk on 5km 600 which 2km600 climb and 3km on the set for 3 hours. Read more

DAY 12

Ascension of the Pic Boby

After breakfast at the camp, you will leave for the Ascension of the Pic Boby, the second highest summit and accessible of the country with its granite massifs. You will climb to the roof of Madagascar. A great walk, very steep; unique fauna and flora; a panoramic view ….. 9km round-trip for four hours and a half walk from Andreampotsy camp. You will back to Andreampotsy camp for the lunch before to continue the trek. After lunch, you will leave the camp and walk through vast plates in a loss of sight before boarding and join the beautiful and magical lunar landscape (Diavolana). Rocks, unique plants, tranquility and calm will be waiting for you. Then a long descent awaits you before you get to Iantaranomby on the west side of the park. Since Andreampotsy there are 10 km walk including 7.5 km on the shelf and the lunar landscape and a great downhill 2,300km before the camp of Iantaranomby Lunch included Dinner and overnight camping at Iantaranomby camp In total 9 hours walking for the day. DAY 13

Iantaranomby - Ranomafana

After breakfast; you will continue the downhill. You have a beautiful view of the cliff and Tsaranoro Valley. It is a quiet day because after 3 hours walk; you will be in the Valley of dream (near the cliff Tsaranoro). There are 7.600km from Iantaranomby to reach the village of Morarano. On place, the driver-guide already waits for you to continue the trip to Ranomafana. Ranomafana ("hot water") houses a tropical forest 40 000 ha, and the famous thermal springs with healing properties. In the evening, accompanied by a MNP (Madagascar National Parks) guide, you will go in search of nocturnal species. Since the park is closed to the night visits; nights visits are made on the outside, along the road leading to the village. You come back to your hotel after the visit. Read more

DAY 14

Ranomafana -Ambositra

Early in the morning, you will join the Ranomafana Park for a walking tour that will allow you to discover this enchanting place. Ranomafana, a whole forest park, spreads on 41,601 ha. It was classified UNESCO World Natural Heritage of the Atsinanana in 2007. It shelters a big wealth in endemic biodiversity but in danger. We can see the rare species there and seriously threatened lemurs. The park is also the genetic reservoir of some rare and endemic plant species. It is browsed by many rivers that are the affluents of the Namorona stream. The visit is an opportunity to see 2 of Madagascar’s endangered lemur species, the golden bamboo lemur and the greater bamboo lemur that the park preserves. The park offers 02 half-day tours: "Aureus" and "Sahamalaotra", you choose on site the half-day tour which suits you. After the visit, you will continue the road until Ambositra. Read more

Ambositra - Antananarivo

After the breakfast, you will leave Ambositra to Antananarivo that you will reach at the end of the afternoon.   • A single supplement and a half board or a full board supplement will give as required.
  • If you choose comfort hotels for your accomodation, the Tsiribihina River tour will be done by motor boat.
  • This trip is not suitable for babies and children under 12 years old.
  • It is possible to obtain the tourist visa at about 30 Euros (depending on exchange rate) for a stay less than or equal to one month upon arrival at the airport. Your passport with at least a whole blank page and your backairline ticket will be requested. The passport is valid for 6 months after the back date shown on the flight ticket.
