The tour begins from the cultural hub of Cochin, moving to picturesque hills of Munnar to the tropical evergreen and deciduous forest of Periyar / Thekkady. You will receive you on arrival at Cochin airport and transfer you to the hotel. Cochin is a diverse and colorful port/city, spreading over 4-5 islands and peninsulas. The main town of Ernakulam is on the mainland. All the islands are connected by a ferryboat network and therein lay the charm of an exploratory two days here. Around the headland of Fort Cochin, a phalanx of cantilevered Chinese fishing boats dips into the sea at high tide. Chinese fishing nets: The Chinese fishing nets erected on teak wood and bamboo poles work on the principle of balance. Records say they were first set up here between AD 1350 and 1450. Vasco Da Gama Square, the narrow promenade that parallels the beach, is the best place to watch the nets being lowered and pulled out of the sea. JEWISH SYNAGOGUE: The Jewish community traces its history to nearly 2000 years ago. In 1948 the community numbered 2500 and today there are fewer than 30 people. The community is still centered around JEWTOWN where you will visit its crown Jewel, the Paradesi Synagogue. Built in 1568 and reconstructed after a Portuguese bombardment in 1662, the synagogue is distinguished by its tile roof and bell tower. The small synagogue is also known for its hand-painted, willow-patterned, blue and white Chinese floor tiles, and the many brass and crystal lamps that hang from the ceiling. Once the summer resort of the British, Munnar is most famous for its tea and nearly 55,000 acres of land are covered with tea plantations.The Tea Museum at Munnar is fascinating. Visit Mattupetty Dam, the scattered villages, Eco-Point, Kundala Dam, Top Station, Nyayamkad & Attukal Waterfalls and later, the Tea factory. Early morning boat cruise on Periyar Lake. Periyar is one of the largest wildlife reserves in India. A boat ride on the splendid Periyar lake is the best way to experience the sanctuary. The earliest sanctuary to be set up in 1934, it extends to 777 square km & forms part of the high mountain ranges, the Western Ghats. Wildlife can be seen while cruising on Periyar Lake in a motor boat. Amongst the animals which can be seen are elephants, wild boar, sambar, tiger, leopard, wild dog, langur monkeys, etc. After breakfast visit to a spice plantation. Over twelve varieties of spices are cultivated in and around Kumily. The spice plantation tour covers spice plantations such as cardamom, pepper, vanilla, clove, nutmeg etc. and also some ayurvedic plants and herbs. The duration of the trip is normally one to two hours (optional extra). The service of an experienced guide will give a full and detailed explanation of the plants and its uses.
