DAY 2

Sigiriya Rock Fortress

After breakfast, transfer to Sigiriya rock fortress Spectacular Rock Fortress of Sigiriya, 19 kilometers North East of Dambulla is one of Sri Lanka’s major attractions. The Rock was the Fortress of the "King Kasyapa" who murdered his father and stole the throne from his elder brother who was the rightful heir to the throne. Kasyapa built his fortress in this 182-meter high rock to protect himself from his enemies. Sigiriya may have been inhabited through prehistoric times. It was used as a rock-shelter mountain monastery from about the 3rd century BC, with caves prepared and donated by devotees to the Buddhist Sangha. The garden and palace were built by Kasyapa 477 - 495 AD. Following Kasyapa's death it was again a monastery complex up to about the 14th century, after which it was abandoned. The ruins were discovered in 1907 by British Explorer John Still.Today Sigiriya is famous for its ‘Mirror Wall’, which consists of poems and paragraphs carved by visitors to the rock many years ago and for its magnificent frescoes of shapely be-jewelled maidens, vibrant colours and the water garden similar to the Ajantha frescoes of India. Sigiriya is in fact, the best-preserved city center in Asia from the first millennium and has been named as a UNESCO world heritage site and 08th Wonder of the World. After completion of sigiriya rock transfer to Minneriya National Park for do the evening safari. Minneriya, a sanctuary for elephants where you’ll have the chance to watch herds of wild elephants as they feed on the grasses. This is one of the largest elephant gatherings in the world. The park is also home to deer, monkeys, and even leopards and Sri Lankan sloth bear. The Minneriya reservoir is home to many large water birds such as the painted stork and spot-billed pelican. In addition to these water birds, you’ll see herons, Sri Lanka junglefowl, Sri Lanka hanging parrot, and Sri Lanka grey hornbill and many other species of birds. Kandy

After breakfast, drive to Kandy. En route visit the Dambulla Rock Cave Temple. Then transfer to Kandy, en route visit of Spice Garden in Matale After the tour departure towards Kandy and check in at the hotel Late evening and do the City Tour - (the Sacred City of Kandy) - is a city in the center of Sri Lanka. It lies amidst hills of rare plant species. The valley of Kandy crosses a tropical zone of plantations. The monumental set of Kandy is an example of the building that associates the Royal Palace and the temple of the tooth. It was one of a series of temples built in places where the relic was brought, the royal palladium of the Sinhalese monarchy, after the successive relocations of the urban capital. Temple of the tooth, the complex of the palace and the sacred city of Kandy Are associated with the history of the spread of one of the most important religions of mankind, Buddhism. The temple of Kandy is the product of the last pilgrimage of the relic of the tooth of Buddha and the testimony of a cult that is still practiced today. Kandy has now grown to encompass Peradeniya, home to the botanical gardens. Kandy is also famous especially for the great Kandy Esala Perahara (a parade of elephants and dancers) which is more than ten days in the month of Esala (August) which has many attractions to justify. Later on witness the cultural dance show. Overnight stay at Hotel Read more

Kandy - 01 night
DAY 4

Nuwara Eliya and tea plantat

After breakfast, drive to Peradeniya This beautiful garden is located 4 miles off Kandy. It was first built as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala king and was expanded by the British. It covers approximately 147 acres and is a walker’s paradise with extensive well-kept lawns, pavilions, an octagon conservatory, fernery, a giant Javan fig tree and numerous flower beds. The best attraction is the orchid house. Then transfer to Nuwara Eliya Nuwara Eliya lso known as the “City of Lights” and “Little England”, Nuwara Eliya was the favourite hill station of the British who tried to create Nuwara Eliya into a typical English Village. The old brick Post office, country house like hill club, with its hunting pictures, mounted hunting trophies and fish, and it's strict formal dinner attire; the 18 hole golf course, race course etc., all remind you of 'England'. Blessed with salubrious climate, breathtaking views of valleys, meadows, mountains and greenery; it's hard to imagine that Nuwara Eliya is only 180 Km from the hot and humid Colombo. The areas around Nuwara Eliya also provide the main output of tea in Sri Lanka. A trip to the highlands of Sri Lanka is never complete without witnessing the age-old traditional tea plucking and sipping a cup of “Ceylon Tea”. Visitors to Nuwara Eliya can also taste the freshly plucked strawberries and purchase fresh fruits and vegetables. Evening spend at leisure. Overnight stay at Hotel Read more

DAY 5

Galle City Visit

After breakfast, drive to Bentota. En route do the City tour In Galle. Today’s town has grown greatly and spreads into the surroundings but the Fort is the slowbeating heart of Galle‘s history. The walled city has stood since the early sixteenth century, through the Colonial periods of the Portuguese, Dutch and British and in our present times is proclaimed as an Archaeological Reserve and has been identified as a living World Heritage Site. The etymology of the name Galle is explained as probably an altered form of the Sinhalese word “gala”: a cattle fold or posting-place from which the Portuguese named it Point-de-Galle. The simpler and more popular theory is found in the similarity of the Sinhalese word: gala, for rock, which the Portuguese duplicated by adopting the Latin word: gallus, for rooster. They thus designed the coat-of-arms of the city as that of a rooster standing upon a rocky perch. After Completion of Galle city Tour proceed to Bentota and check in to the Hotel. Dear Nilesh. I have just returned from the Colouricious Kashmir holiday. Could I thank you and your staff, not only for a wonderful holiday, but for all the rearrangements you made when we could not go to Srinagar. This must have involved a great deal of hard work and I wanted you to know how much we appreciated this. You were not obliged to do this and we were very grateful. We had a wonderful time in Jaipur and, as always with your company, everything was so well organised. Could I also take this opportunity to thank Amrik. He was amazing. His skill, his patience and professionalism, his concern for all of us and his calm demeanour meant that we all had the utmost confidence in him. This made the holiday a great pleasure for all of us, despite the change of plans. He maintained his good humour at all times and provided a wealth of information whenever we needed it. Thank you again to you and to all your staff. Please give my best wishes to Isha and I hope she is well. Above all my thanks and best wishes to Amrik. Your sincerely Jill Jordan (Margaret Jordan) Read more

Hello! After a few days of rest from the wonderful Gujarat trip Colouricious offered, I would like to take a moment of giving some feedback. Gautam was an excellent host/coordinator and expert on our trip. He has a unique ability to communicate with anybody, the Rabari nomads on the road, the British ladies, a small country Muslim community and more. He has built up many excellent relationships with so many people and it makes the trip more interesting. His pace of instruction and points of interest were spot on. There are so many memories, thankfully caught by camera to remind me of this trip. Here are but a few: . seeing the nomads on the road, with their children and tables on their camels . going to a small encampment of travellers where children were making beaded bracelets (great skills actually) . Seeing a cotton factory and talking to the owner! . Seeing a tribal dance at the Rann Riders and looking at the women's dress and jewellery . Seeing bells made and seeing a small community, I was particularly impressed with the community and how they interacted with a member of their community with autism. . Seeing a variety of weaving, one that included knots in the weavings. . Going to a embroiderers small house, where her daughter brought a jug of water on her head to the house. This woman was a character and her house was a warm inviting setting. These are but a few of my memories but just want to say you have a good leader in Gautam and he is an asset to your organisation. I'm looking forward to the February trip and want to thank all of you for all your hard work in organising memorable trips! Read more
