Mount Kilimanjaro, standing at 5,895 metres, is indeed the Roof of Africa. It is the highest free-standing mountain in the world and highest peak on the African continent and yet its summit is accessible by most well-prepared trekkers with a good level of fitness. Six routes up to the summit will take a climber through four ecological zones and breathtaking scenery from the lush montane forest to the scrub covered moorlands to the rocky alpine desert and finally onto the barren summit of snow and ice.
If you are not pushed for time we highly recommend you to take this route. The Machame route itself is quite undulating giving you a good variety of altitudes each day. With the 7 day itinerary you can take things a notch slower, giving you more time to relax and enjoy the scenery and of course a better chance of reaching the summit. If you don’t have previous experience of trekking at altitude then this is the itinerary for you!

The Lemosho route is one of our preferred routes due to its low traffic, beautiful scenery and a high summit success rate. The Lemosho route starts off from the west, beginning with a long drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate. From there, the first two days are spent trekking through the lush rainforest to Shira Plateau
8 days is preferable for better acclimatization and summit success. The Lemosho route joins the Machame route just after Shira 2 Camp and then follows the same route through the southern circuit and descending at Mweka Gate.
The seven day Lemosho variation is preferred over the six day option because it breaks up day two into two days, providing better acclimatization and a more gradual ascent. On the seven day route, we walk from Forest Camp to Shira Camp 1 on day two, a reasonable altitude gain of 2,000 feet. Then on day three, we continue from Shira Camp 2 to the little used Moir Hut, at 13,800 feet. Overall the exposure to this altitude will help prepare the body for higher altitudes coming on the following days.
However, the trek from Barranco to Barafu, followed by the summit day are unchanged from the six day Lemosho variation. This schedule is still very tough, though the extra day on the mountain on the seven day route will help climbers deal with the exhausting itinerary better than
This great mountain creates a micro-climate around itself and the rain-shadow created to the South and East supplies the beautiful and superbly fertile lands. For the adventurous, a climb of Mount Kilimanjaro is a must taking you through the mists of equatorial jungle to reach the snows and breath-taking views
