The tour takes visits Nyungwe, in South West of Rwanda, a gigantic afro-montane forest. With over 10000sq.km in size, Nyungwe is the undisputed giant in Central Africa. The natural forest is renowned for its large troops of colobus monkeys, chimpanzees, butterflies and a rich variety of orchids. Over 300 bird species have been recorded. The terrain in Nyungwe Forest is rugged and steep, and you will be at relatively high elevation, and it can rain at any time of the trek so come with appropriate clothing.
Visit some cultural sites en route - the Museum in Butare and the local king’s palace at Nyanza.
This program aims at meeting the needs of that intrepid and adventurous nature lover - by combining the exerting primates adventure treks with savannah wildlife; and spicing it up with cultural and historical presentations and the geographical scenic beauty of this land of a thousand hills.
On this trip, you will visit Parc National des Volcans (PNV) in the north of Rwanda which habituates approximately 300 mountain gorillas. Ten Gorilla families are habituated for tracking. Each of the Gorillla families allows a maximum of 8 tourists tracking per day. On addition to gorilla tracking, you may also climb the Visoke volcano and track other primates including golden monkeys. You can also visit the Dian Fossey’s Karisoke Research Centre (her Grave) or do a Village walk, all on payment of extra.
